Error detection with machine vision

What types of defects can be detected using machine vision?

Machine vision systems detect a wide variety of deviations – with a speed and accuracy that would be virtually impossible to achieve manually. These include, among other things:

  • Geometric deviations (e.g., lengths, angles, radii)
  • Surface defects (scratches, cracks, inclusions)
  • Color or material differences
  • Assembly errors (wrong parts, missing components)
  • Particles or impurities
  • Microscopically small defects, depending on the resolution and inspection task

In many cases, the systems detect defects during the development process – before they lead to scrap or costly rework.
