Error detection with machine vision
What types of defects can be detected using machine vision?
Machine vision systems detect a wide variety of deviations – with a speed and accuracy that would be virtually impossible to achieve manually. These include, among other things:
- Geometric deviations (e.g., lengths, angles, radii)
- Surface defects (scratches, cracks, inclusions)
- Color or material differences
- Assembly errors (wrong parts, missing components)
- Particles or impurities
- Microscopically small defects, depending on the resolution and inspection task
- …
In many cases, the systems detect defects during the development process – before they lead to scrap or costly rework.
